Vegetarian/Vegan Options
In my first Q&A video, someone asked for suggestions about areas or specific restaurants where one can find vegetarian/vegan options. I don’t really pay attention to that sort of thing. I have seen notices outside some restaurants advertising that they’re veg-friendly, and I have seen veg options on some menus, but I couldn’t name anything specific without a Google search. I do know that some Korean dishes are vegetarian by default or can be made such. I'm gathering details on them in the Food section of this site.
Below, you’ll find a list of restaurants that offer vegetarian and vegan options. I'll add more as I learn about them, but there are two links that should help you beyond the information I provide here. TripAdvisor’s Seoul restaurant listing filtered for “Vegetarian Friendly” and “Vegan Options” is a good start. For some useful information on vegetarian Korean food in general, see A Survival Guide for Being Vegetarian in South Korea at “life of brit”.
The above link to TripAdvisor provides a far more comprehensive listing of restaurants than I would ever be able to, but I’ll update the page with details about my thoughts regarding any I visit in the future.
Known Vegetarian/Vegan Options
- Jeonju Cheonggukjang in Jamwon-dong is a restaurant that specializes in a fermented soybean paste stew called Cheonggukjang. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Their cheonggukjang is amazing and I've confirmed that it is vegan. That does not apply to the other items on their menu.
